Guardian Angels are part of the Gold Coast North Zone District Sports Competition. We are lucky at school to have the opportunity to compete in all interschool competitions as many schools within the Gold Coast are unable due to a lack of staff willing to coach teams and the limited amount of buses that can serve the schools.
Interschool Sport offers the students an opportunity to learn new skills, develop teamwork strategies, make new friendships and enjoy physical activity in a supportive environment. We have staff at Guardian Angels who are qualified coaches across many sports and are committed to giving up their time to help develop the skills of the athletes, whether the student is competing for fun or looking at representative honours in their sport.

Equipment
GA has a vast supply of quality sports equipment. All sports are covered with balls, bats, markers, protective padding and coaching manuals. Students are responsible for the following equipment:
Swimming – goggles, cap
Rugby League – Boots and Mouthguards are compulsory. Students may also wish to wear headgear and shoulder pads.
Soccer – Boots, shin pads
Touch – boots or grass cut shoes / runners
Dental Protection
We all know the importance of looking after our teeth and how expensive repair work can be. At GA it is compulsory for all rugby league players to wear guards when they play and are having contact training sessions. It is also advisable for other sports where contact can be made to wear mouth protection.
School Jerseys / Singlets
Students may be issued with a school jersey or singlet to compete in interschool events. When the student is issued with their item the teacher will take a list of their name and number. At the completion of the season that item MUST be returned washed and ready for use the following season. Failure to return item will result in the parent being invoiced for a replacement.
Rugby League players are required to purchase the school football socks and shorts and soccer players require the socks, which are all available at the uniform store.
Team Selections
Whilst we would like to give all students the opportunity to compete at carnivals and in chosen sports, there are times where the participation will depend on being selected from performance. For swimming, cross country and athletics the students are selected from the performance at time trials and carnivals. A squad is selected and will train up to that event. Closer to the carnival that squad will be finalized to at GA Team. The reason we select a squad is so that in the event of an injury / sickness we can replace the student with someone from the squad who has continued their training and is physically ready to compete.
Interschool sport team selection is dependable on the number of teams available to play in the district competition. Rugby league for example may have 24 players nominate for the school team. This number is too
few to have 2 teams and too many to field one side. It is therefore the decision of the coach on who will make the team. This may be done by trial or consultation with the students. The PE teacher and coach will have the final say on all team selections.

Funding Support for children in representative teams from Guardian Angels
Our Parents and Friends Association is proud to support families of children who excel in representative sport. Accordingly, the P&F has set down a set formula for this support.
When a child is in a recognised school sport, and goes on to represent the school at District, Catholic, Regional and State levels, a certain amount of support is offered by the Parents and friends to support these families.
Regional = $50
State = $100
National = $100 (if held within Queensland) or $200 (if held outside Queensland)
