Empowering Young Leaders to Step Up and Shine

Our Year 6 Students Embrace Leadership with Purpose and Pride.  At Guardian Angels' Catholic Primary School, our emerging leaders discovered what it truly means to lead—with courage, connection and character. This week, our Year 6 leaders embarked on a transformational journey at the Aquinas Leadership Day—an inspiring event that brought together student leaders from across the Gold Coast. It was more than just a workshop; it was a chance for our students to stand tall, speak up, and truly see the leadership potential in themselves and others.

The day centred on identifying personal strengths, receiving feedback from peers and family, and understanding the deeper role of a student leader. In a warm and inclusive setting, each student was encouraged to reflect on the unique qualities they bring to their leadership journey.

“Yesterday I learnt that naming my strengths and the strengths others saw in me showed me what I bring to the role." Isabella

This powerful moment of self-awareness was echoed throughout the day, as students engaged in activities designed to spark growth and build confidence.

Learning from Leaders, Becoming Leaders

Our students had the privilege of hearing from Aquinas College leaders—young people who shared real stories about how they support their school communities. These insights weren't just inspiring; they were deeply relatable.

“I learnt how different leaders support their communities and ensure they include all members." Abbie

Through these conversations, our Year 6 leaders began to see leadership not just as a title, but as a commitment to service, empathy and inclusivity.

Building Trust, Communicating with Purpose

Hands-on activities throughout the day highlighted the essential skills of leadership—communication, trust, and teamwork. Whether guiding their peers through trust exercises or collaborating in team challenges, every experience pushed them to think, listen and act like leaders.

“I learnt that communication and trust are foundational to helping lead groups and initiatives." Lani

It was clear: leadership isn't about having all the answers—it's about building bridges, holding space for others, and moving forward together.

To our Year 6 leaders: we see you, we back you, and we can't wait to watch you lead. The future of our school is brighter because of the strengths you bring. Keep stepping forward, keep showing up, and keep lifting others as you go.

And to our school community—let's continue to nurture these young changemakers. Their journey has only just begun.
