The QLD Youth Music Awards seeks to allow young performers an opportunity for collective music making, to raise their artistic endeavours and be applauded by their audience . The venue, St Peter’s in Indooroopilly, has an incredible stage and the wonderful and supporting staff enable students to have a memorable experience. In 2025, over 4000 students performed across 15 nights as part of this music festival.
Our GA Senior Band performed an epic program on Thursday 5 June, the final night. They played with great precision and some really focussed listening and were awarded a GOLD + 1st place. We are super proud of our musicians and their dedication to live music performance.
Congratulations GA Senior Band!!
Here are our program notes:
The Guardian Angels Senior Band is formed from players in Year 6 and Year 5. They rehearse weekly and play a diverse range of pieces for various performance events.
Tonight, they will be performing 3 pieces.
The first piece is the beautiful Celtic Air and Dance by Michael Sweeney which features many tempo changes and skilful work across the sections.
The second piece is called Zombie Tango, by James Meredith. This wonderful piece describes the anguish of two zombie dancers at a tango competition. Their bodies won’t behave as they once did in their earthly life.
The last piece is a energetic and powerful piece called Lightning, by Todd Salter. It contrasts fast sections with a slow interior that allows listeners to reflect on the visual beauty.
Please enjoy our program tonight.
